Are you motivated by fear?
Do you have the courage and will power to push through fear?
My hope for those who are missing out on experiences and opportunities or crippled by fear is to walk in this truth:
“She was powerful not because she wasn’t scared but because she went on so strongly despite the fear”. – Atticus
So here it goes:
I’m the girl with many fears. But you wouldn’t think that looking at my pictures if didn’t express in the captions. At the same time I’m the girl who loves a challenge, thrill, and adventure. My loved ones are a nervous wreck with my antics to do outrageous things lol. To date have:
- Jumped in 15 feet of water
- Rode Sky Explorer 700 feet above the Jamaican rainforest
- Bobsled
- Zip Line
- Jet Skiing
- Parasailing
- Horse back riding
- Snorkeling
- Snow tubing
- Rollercoasters
- Indoor rock climbing
- Kayaking in the deep sea
- Hiking over 2,000 feet
- Cable car to Table Mountain over 3,000 feet
- In a cage with tiger cub
- Arm’s length to lions without doors or windows
- Signed up for speaking class
In order to let go or move forward must identify the cause of your fears.
IDENTIFY THE CAUSE OF FEAR
First step to healing and overcoming is awareness, recognition, and ownership! The most powerful thing you can do is own your fears. Then face them head on.
Question to think about:
- Where does the fear come from? Could the fear be rooted in bad childhood experiences that caused you to live in fear?
For example:
I’m afraid of dogs because a pit bull dog bit my sister when we were young. When realized where fear stemmed from was able to let go. Usually educate myself about unfamiliar topics to ease my mind. I researched dog behaviors to not freak out every time big dogs are close to me. It was helpful because no longer scream or run from dogs. If the dog is lucky may pet them. I’m willing to have a family dog in the future.
PROGRESS FOR THE WIN!!
- Are you fearful of success or lack confidence to pursue your goals because of negative experiences from childhood like someone called you “stupid” or “dumb”? Or maybe you failed classes and lost hope in yourself that you can succeed.
If you’re not sure ask God to reveal the origin of your fears. We all have moments of fear but guess what? Running from fear or denying fear won’t help you. Face those fears one by one. Change your perspective! Know fear isn’t from God!
“If it scares you, it might be a good thing to try” – Seth Godin
PUBLIC SPEAKING
For as long as I can remember feared public speaking. In 5th grade teacher knew I was shy because never raised my hand to answer questions! She called on me. I remember my heart beating fast when she asked the ENTIRE CLASS to stop talking because my teeny weeny voice was barely audible. I couldn’t bear to talk any louder or else would’ve crawled in a tight hole lol. I dreaded public speaking so much my voice shaked, sweaty hands, talk fast, forget my words, fidgety, bubble guts (the bgs), and stuttering. Man talking about a hot mess and embarrassment!!!! Although, smart and studious with tons of academic awards throughout school and college my fear of public speaking didn’t allow my greatness to outwardly display. After college faced my truth! Public speaking was my biggest stronghold! Decided to stop running from my fear. Joined speaking club called Toastmasters, read books and blogs, and listened to YouTube videos.
Now when public speaking fear arises choose to acknowledge it, do it afraid, and replace fear with faith.
Who knows why I was shy with fear of public speaking?
Maybe for this moment to live my truth to encourage someone to overcome?
Maybe thorn in flesh to stay humble?
Maybe devil tactic to hinder me from thriving in my purpose? After all, the enemy would love to silence your voice!
But…
How many people know the devil is a liar! Don’t let the devil win! Give fear your best shot! Put your boxing gloves on! Fight back! All things work for your good. Don’t let him win speak up even if your voice shakes, hands sweat, stutter, or you want to run like Forrest Gump (go Forrest go).
Make a decision right now to no longer let fear dictate your decisions or cripple you! Live by faith. Take your power back in Jesus name!!
Funny how the thing you run from can ultimately become your destiny.
FLYING
Over 10 years ago in college applied for a passport even though had fear of flying. Took the risk because my goal is to travel the world! To ease my fear read a book to understand how planes operate and what to expect while on the plane. Shortly after booked first trip to Dominican Republic!! One of the most exotic and beautiful countries I have traveled thus far.
I decided to tackle another fear…
DEEP WATER
In college took a swimming class for beginners. Things were going well. Felt more and more comfortable swimming over 4 feet as long as was close to the edge lol. Then life happened when final exam was to jump in the deepest part of the water about 15 feet. My classmates eagerly jumped in the deep water one by one! I couldn’t do it my heart was pounding as I paced back and forth. My instructor told me what to do “breathe as soon as you jump in the water put your arms out, kick your legs, and you will float to the top. If you need help I have human net to save you”. Still not ready peeking at the water thinking “Will fail the class if don’t jump” Couldn’t afford to fail! While classmates literally cheering and clapping for me jumped in. I floated to the top but when realized what I did panicked! Instructor used his human net to save me (imagine that lol) But guess what??? I did it! I passed swim class and made it alive to tell the story.
CAN I ENCOURAGE YOU?
STEP OUT YOUR COMFORT ZONE
If you ever avoided stepping out your comfort zone missed an opportunity to evolve. When you live by fear never experience the fullness of what life has to offer. Having fear is normal but using it as an excuse will prevent you from growing, living life, and having fun. Don’t let fear cripple you to the point you miss out on opportunities, love, adventures, and dreams.
Change your mindset to perceive fear as motivation!
Affirm you are:
Powerful!
Mighty!
Brave!
Warrior!
Victorious!
Bold!
Feed the Faith! Starve The Fear!
GOD GIVES US POWER NOT FEAR
God will always challenge you outside your comfort zone. Here’s the thing we will be afraid and we may fail but God will use every detail of your life as part of his plan. I challenge you to expose your fears because there is purpose. When you step out on faith God will meet you where you are afraid and all. God rewards obedience. You can decide to live and rationalize fear but then you’ll miss out on God’s best for your life. Pray, meditate on God’s word to develop faith over fear, and trust God. God is not of fear. If God is not of fear the devil is trying to paralyze you. Don’t let him win. Let him know he is a Punk. Bully. Beneath your feet.
Let God use fear as your motivation to achieve purpose, destiny, and personal development for the highest version of yourself and inspire others.
If you can’t do if for yourself think about people who are depending on you to step out on faith like your kids, grandkids, friends, strangers, and coworkers.
“FOR GOD HATH NOT GIVEN US THE SPIRIT OF FEAR; BUT OF POWER, AND OF LOVE, AND OF A SOUND MIND.” – 2 TIMOTHY 1:7 (KJV)
DON’T BE AFRAID TO START OVER
Maybe you’re afraid to start the business?
Or go to college because of fear of failure or lies you’re not smart enough?
Or get your GED?
Or maybe you need to have a tough conversation to heal from the past?
Or apply for a job you don’t feel qualified for?
Or afraid to love again?
The list of fears can go on and on.
But try something different…
Believe in yourself! If you fail pick yourself up, dust off, and try again until you succeed! Fail or fall 9 times but keep getting up baby until you succeed! Be motivated by fear!! Face your fears don’t run from them. Never give up or doubt yourself!! Keep pushing!!!! Can’t nobody do it like you!! Show the world!! Be confident!! Live by the word of God!!! He didn’t call us to live in doubt or fear! The devil is a Liar!!!
PRACTICE WHAT YOU PREACH
Through out the years challenged my fears. Each time afraid but still brave. As I reflect on the moments faced my fears realized I’m not my fear rather I am motivated by fear. I’m inspired to break each fear one at a time. If you can tell yourself you can do it, believe it, and take action you will be motivated by your ability to overcome any fear. Because I looked fear in the face I can say I am a survivor. I am a conqueror. I am a overcomer. I am brave. I have defeated my fears. Every time I overcame my fear it prepared me to be stronger. Every time I embraced fear I embraced growth.
Lets stand together! Can we rise together?
When fear arises we won’t act in fear! We will activate faith! Seize the moment and enjoy kicking fear in the butt.
